Stephanie Kosso

I am a senior majoring in Health Services Management through Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, and I’ve developed an interest in the financial and administrative side of organizations. Throughout college, I’ve explored different career paths within healthcare and business operations, which has helped me better understand my strengths. My coursework and internship experiences have introduced me to areas such as finance and patient-facing roles.

As I prepare to graduate, I’m motivated to build a career where I can continue to grow, learn new skills, and take on more responsibility over time. Ultimately, I hope to become someone who contributes to the organization’s success while also becoming confident in my abilities.

Why Health Services Management

I chose Health Services Management after realizing my original path was not the right fit for me. I started college as a psychology major on the pre-med track, but I quickly learned that I did not enjoy the lab work or course topics and could not see myself doing that long-term. I continued with psychology classes the next semester. However, I still did not feel connected to the major and became concerned about job stability and the amount of additional education required.

After meeting with an advisor to explore switching into business, I was introduced to health services management as a major that combines healthcare and business. I decided to give it a try and ended up really enjoying it. I found the topics meaningful, especially prevention and improving health systems, and I felt more confident in my abilities. Choosing this major helped me feel more connected to what I was learning and to my future career path.
